SEO or PPC- Which is better for marketing your website?

So let's say you've established a new business and want to start an online marketing campaign.

"Should my business use a SEO expert or maybe PPC would be enough? What is even the difference?"

We have worked with hundreds of clients who have asked us the same thing. The confusion and uncertainty is understandable… while one promises an organic and a slow burning long term investment, the other is paid and provides results measurably faster. However both are not certain to give you sales.

So, which is it… SEO or PPC or both?

Well it depends. A number of factors must be considered about your business such as: the business type, the campaign objectives and budgeting.

By the time you are done reading this blog, you might have a better idea of which to choose for your own business.

SEO or PPC- Which has more value?

Working as a small SEO and PPC Company in Australia, we know having a strong brand or web presence on the internet would be amazing. Especially seeing your business within the top rankings, it's comforting to know that you're guaranteed exposure.

Let's talk about PPC.

PPC stands for Pay Per Click which means for example Google will put your website at the top of the search results as a sponsored link and for a period of time. Every time someone clicks on your link you pay Google for that click… You pay for that website visit and traffic.

In short with Google's AdWords, you enjoy a faster and short term result for traffic. However, you aren't promised a sale… just a visits and potential leads. Using PPC would be ideal for promotional campaigns and campaigns to increase brand and website exposure.

Let's talk about SEO services.

SEO is the process of optimising your website and content to allow better indexing by a search engine's ranking algorithm. On top of other factors such as mobile and content optimisations, website traffic, back linking and so on, SEO is comparably more affordable, organic and versatile. The caveat is all the hard work required to optimise for search engines as well as the results will be ongoing and appear to be more obvious long term.

What's our take?

We prefer SEO over PPC because you get more qualified traffic and genuine results through optimising. Our philosophy is that you should not have to pull or force the customers to contact you. Rather they should be looking for you, and if your website and optimising is good, they would want to buy from you too.

SEO is a long-term investment but for the longevity of your business, it is sustainable and recommended.

"Does it mean we shouldn't use PPC then?"

No!

With PPC services in Melbourne, we have seen that Google has punished high bidders from the first rank when they are not able to drive clicks. So if you're afraid that you might not be ranked first or being out bid, don't be. PPC is great for short term promotions or developing brand awareness in a certain product category.

Just remember that PPC is a huge investment and if you don't do it right, you may be wasting your time and money.

Integrating PPC into your SEO campaigns is advised especially if you have strong competition.
